Paraiba Blue Quartz is a distinctive variety of quartz prized for its vivid blue to blue-green inclusions. The quartz itself is typically colorless to translucent, allowing the colorful inclusions within the stone to become its defining feature. This material is associated with the Paraíba region of Brazil, where quartz containing blue and green gilalite inclusions was first documented.

The most characteristic inclusions are formed by gilalite, a rare hydrated copper silicate that can occur inside the quartz as delicate radiating clusters, rounded forms, or fine fibrous structures. These inclusions can create an almost floating effect within the transparent quartz, with their vibrant color appearing to shift as the stone catches the light.

Because the inclusions develop naturally within the quartz during its formation, their color, shape, density, and distribution can vary considerably from one gemstone to another. Some stones display distinct blue-green formations, while others have a softer, more diffused appearance. In jewellery, Paraiba Blue Quartz is especially appreciated for this unusual combination of clear quartz and vivid internal formations. Rather than having a uniform color, each gemstone reveals its own natural landscape of blue and green inclusions, making the internal structure an essential part of its beauty.
